Chief (Dr) John Onyi Agaba is a distinguished Nigerian entrepreneur, philanthropist and public-spirited leader, currently aspiring to represent Cross River North Senatorial District in the National Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. Born on 1 January 1965 at Kano General Hospital, Dr Agaba hails from Ebegang community in Ibiaragidi Ward of Bekwarra Local Government Area, Cross River State. His early life was shaped by hardship, having lost his parents at a young age. However, through discipline, faith and determination, he rose above adversity to become a leading figure in Nigeria’s business landscape. His life story continues to inspire many, and forms the foundation of his enduring commitment to ensuring that no child from Cross River North is left behind due to poverty or lack of opportunity.

Dr Agaba is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Snowspring Group, a diversified conglomerate with interests in real estate, hospitality, importation and investment services. Under his leadership, the Group has grown into a respected brand known for excellence, innovation and sustainable business practices. He also serves as Chairman of several subsidiaries, including John Onyi & Co Estate Brokers, Snowspring Hotel, Snowspring Restaurant, John Onyi & Co Importation Services, and Snowspring Luxury Furniture. Through these ventures, he has contributed significantly to job creation, industrial growth and economic development, particularly within the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.

Academically accomplished, Dr Agaba holds an LLB and BL from the University of Calabar, an MSc in Business Law, as well as multiple postgraduate degrees, including LLMs and PhDs from reputable institutions such as Bingham University, the University of Abuja, and Nile University. His extensive academic background in law and business has equipped him with deep expertise in corporate governance, investment strategy and industrial development, which he continues to deploy in both private enterprise and public service initiatives.

In recognition of his professional excellence, he has received several awards, including Best Performing Estate Broker of the Year by the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) and Most Determined and Emerging Estate Broker in the Federal Capital Territory by the Nigeria House of Dream Parliament (NHODP). These accolades reflect not only his business acumen but also his commitment to raising standards within the real estate and hospitality sectors.

Beyond commerce, Dr Agaba is deeply committed to humanitarian service. As Founder of John’s Foundation, he has championed interventions in healthcare, education and poverty alleviation, impacting lives across various communities. His philanthropic philosophy is anchored on empowerment rather than dependency. As he often states: “Do not give a man what will enslave him tomorrow; teach him, guide him, empower him, and watch him rise.”

A devout Christian and member of the Assemblies of God Church, he believes strongly that leadership must be rooted in humility, accountability, love and service. Chief Agaba’s aspiration to the Senate is driven by a clear and practical vision to reposition Cross River North as a hub of economic productivity, social wellbeing and infrastructural advancement. His development blueprint is anchored on strategic empowerment, inclusive governance and sustainable growth across the five local government areas of Bekwarra, Obanliku, Obudu, Ogoja and Yala.

A central pillar of his agenda is the restoration of reliable electricity supply through effective legislation, oversight and facilitation of constituency-driven power projects. He envisions a region where stable power supports small businesses, agro-processing and local industries, thereby boosting economic activity and job creation.

In healthcare, he proposes the provision and upgrading of primary healthcare centres across the senatorial district, ensuring they are equipped with modern facilities and staffed by well-trained personnel. His goal is to guarantee accessible and affordable healthcare for all, particularly in rural communities.

On infrastructure, Dr Agaba prioritises the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads to enhance agricultural productivity and ease the movement of goods and services. He also advocates the provision of clean and safe water across communities, recognising its importance to public health and overall quality of life.

Education forms another critical component of his roadmap. He is committed to improving learning environments through the provision of modern educational facilities, as well as the establishment of ICT training centres to equip young people with digital skills relevant to a modern economy.

To tackle unemployment and poverty, he plans to establish skill acquisition centres across the district, offering practical training and start-up support to entrepreneurs. His empowerment strategy also includes targeted interventions for women and youths through business grants, scholarships, bursaries and facilitation of employment opportunities within government agencies and the private sector.

Dr Agaba further emphasises the importance of stakeholder engagement and participatory governance. He has pledged to maintain regular consultations with community leaders, traditional rulers and constituents to ensure that representation remains responsive and aligned with the needs and aspirations of the people.
