Grassroots Initiative Group Launches Otu/Odey 2027 Campaign,

A new political movement, Grassroots Initiative for Otu/Odey 2027, has been officially launched with a strong call for continuity in governance and consensus support for the re-election of Bassey Edet Otu and his deputy, Peter Odey, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing journalists on Thursday in Cross River State, the Founder and Director General of the initiative, Awade Friday, said the movement emerged from extensive consultations and a shared desire among citizens for sustained development, stability, and people-oriented governance.
He explained that the initiative aims to mobilise support across all communities, emphasising that politics must be rooted at the grassroots to truly reflect the will of the people. According to him, the group’s slogan, “Every village, every unit,” reflects its commitment to inclusiveness and widespread engagement.
Awade commended members of the media for their role in promoting transparency, accountability, and informed public discourse, noting that their contributions remain vital to strengthening democracy and amplifying citizens’ voices.
He stated that the core objective of the movement is to build a broad-based consensus among political parties, stakeholders, and the general public for the continuation of the current administration from 2027 to 2031.
“Our call is not driven by partisanship, but by performance, impact, and service to the people,” he said.
The group highlighted the strong working relationship between the governor and his deputy, describing it as one built on loyalty, trust, and effective collaboration. Awade noted that Deputy Governor Odey has consistently provided strategic support, contributing significantly to the administration’s achievements.
According to him, the government has recorded measurable progress across key sectors, including infrastructure, education, agriculture, and public safety. He cited the recovery of Tinapa Business and Resort Limited from the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria after 14 years as a major milestone in reclaiming critical state assets.
He also pointed to ongoing road rehabilitation projects, improved traffic management, and enhanced public lighting as factors contributing to safer and more efficient movement within urban centres.
The initiative referenced national recognitions received by Governor Otu, including the Silverbird Man of the Year and The Sun Governor of the Year awards, as evidence of the administration’s growing reputation for impactful leadership.
Awade further commended key government officials, including the Chief of Staff, Emmanuel Ironbar, for strengthening coordination and governance, and Ekpenyong Akiba, whom he described as instrumental to the political structure and growth of the initiative.
The group called on political parties, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, youth groups, and women to embrace consensus as a strategy for unity and progress.
“Consensus is not a limitation; it is a far-sighted approach to stability, growth, and collective prosperity,” Awade stated.
He disclosed plans for community engagements, sensitisation campaigns, and town hall meetings across the state to deepen participation and foster dialogue.
Awade also encouraged young people and women to take active roles in the democratic process, stressing their importance in shaping the future of the state.
He acknowledged the contributions of the governor’s wife, Eyoanwan Otu, particularly in education and community development, describing her efforts as complementary to government programmes.
The group also extended early birthday wishes to her ahead of her April 10 celebration, praying for continued strength and impactful service.
In his closing remarks, Awade urged citizens to prioritise unity, peaceful political engagement, and collective interest over division.
“Unity in purpose brings strength; consensus in leadership brings progress; and collective support brings prosperity,” he concluded.
The launch of the Grassroots Initiative for Otu/Odey 2027 signals the beginning of a statewide mobilisation effort aimed at consolidating support for continuity in leadership ahead of the next electoral cycle.
